Vickery Place Community Donates 30 Meal Bags and Cash to Local Pantries

Donations to Vickery Place have a significant impact on the community. Your contributions help support local pantries like the Geneva Heights Peace Pantry and Long Middle School Peace Pantry, which provide essential resources to those in need. This holiday season Vickery Place Neighborhood donated 30 meal bags to the Geneva Heights Peace Pantry and made a cash donation to the Long Middle School Peace Pantry.

Pet of the Month

December's Pet of the Month: Gumbo

Gumbo is a 2 year old Bengal cat, which is a breed created from a hybrid of Asian leopard cat & domestic cats! He loves to pay and run around the house all day & night. Gumbo likes to apart of everything and will follow you around the house like a dog! If you are walking down the 5400 block of Richard Avenue, you will most likely see him siting in the window looking for birds and squirrels. However, as much as he loves the outdoors, Gumbo always stays inside due to having asthma. He is super friendly & never meets a stranger as he is always eager to greet visitors! If you were wondering why he is called Gumbo – it is because he is from New Orleans!

Gumbo will be receiving a gift basket curated just for him from our neighbor Dr. Benjamin Wright & his team at Lakewood Vet Center.

Pet of the Month submissions have been changed from monthly to a rolling admission. Going forward, you don't have to submit every month to be considered!

Stepping into Fitness & Community with Ross Goldberg
Hello Vickery Place Neighbors, I’m Ross Goldberg, your fellow resident at 5425 Belmont Ave since 2013, and a proud single dad to an 11-year-old middle schooler. I’m also a former marathon runner who’s recently found his way back to the track. I’m out seven days a week with my 19-month-old

Kroger Community Rewards

During the Q4 period of 2023 we only had 23 households signed up for our Kroger Community Rewards. With nearly 1200 homes in Vickery Place, we can fund events like this month's donations to local Pantries with no effort every time you get groceries! If you shop at Kroger, please take the time to sign up below and a portion of your purchases go to supporting local schools, charity drives, and neighborhood events.

When you do your grocery shopping at Kroger, don’t forget there is an easy way to also support Vickery Place Neighborhood Association. VPNA is a registered charity with the Kroger Community Rewards Program. A few simple steps will help raise funds to support more neighborhood activities. https://www.kroger.com/account/communityrewards/

To Connect With Kroger Community Rewards:

• Sign into your Kroger Rewards digital account (or easily set one up if you do not already have an account).

• Select “My Account”.

• Scroll down to the ‘Community Rewards’ section of your account page.

• Select ‘Enroll Now’ or ‘Edit’.

• Enter the name of the organization you wish to support.

• Select ‘Vickery Place Neighborhood Association’ and click on ‘Save’.

Any transactions moving forward using the card number associated with your Kroger digital account will be applied to the Community Rewards program. It takes about 10 days for the Community Rewards totals to begin displaying on your receipt. Vickery Place NA gets quarterly rewards payments—last quarter we received $44.22. The more neighbors who shop with Kroger and connect their digital account with Vickery Place, the more funds our organization will earn! Thank You!

Crime Stats

Did you know Dallas is on track to have more than 18,000 cars stolen in 2023? That is one car every 30 minutes for an entire year! As a neighborhood we need to be looking out for each other, reporting suspicious activity, and taking steps to prevent our neighborhood from being seen as a target.

Holiday Shopping Tips:

  • If possible, do your shopping during the day and avoid peak periods
  • Park in well-lit areas, and be sure to lock the car, close your windows
  • Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Carry a small purse or fanny pack. This will make you a less attractive target to purse snatchers
  • Avoid doing all your shopping at once.
  • Don’t leave packages visible in your car. Hide all gifts and shopping bags in the trunk.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask mall security to escort you to your car when you exit the mall.

Around the home:

  • After you open your presents, don't pile up empty gift boxes from your new laptop computer, TV, game console, etc., on the street for trash pickup. Burglars appreciate knowing that you have expensive gifts inside.
  • Be sure to lock your doors! (Car and Home!)
  • Remove packages in a timely fashion.
  • Keep your premises well-lit and up-kept.
  • Consider investing in cameras to keep an eye on your home when away.
