Happy 42nd Birthday VPNA!
Each February we commemorate the founding of Vickery Place Neighborhood
Association (VPNA). We celebrate resident’s past & present, and salute those
who strive to preserve our rich history, enhance our quality of life, and make
Vickery Place neighborhood a great place to live! Below is how it all began.
On January 28, 1982, nearly 100 Vickery Place neighbors gathered together in the basement of the Greenville Avenue Christian Church for a meeting with representatives of the Dallas Department of Housing and Neighborhood Services to consider the future of the neighborhood.
At the meeting the staff presented the results of an extensive neighborhood study conducted during December of 1981 and then attendees provided feedback on those results. The staff also presented an inventory of needs for public facilities and services and listed recent accomplishments for the neighborhood. Marvin Krout (Planning Manager) said that in his opinion, neighborhoods with neighborhood associations generally do better than neighborhoods without. During the meeting, approximately 30 neighbors signed a list indicating that they were interested in participating in a neighborhood association, and it was from this list that the North Henderson Neighborhood Association was born. Later the name was changed to the Vickery Place Neighborhood Association.

Pet of the Month
February's Pet(s) of the Month: Daisy & Winnie
This month's VPNA Pet(s) of the Month are Daisy & Winnie! Daisy and Winnie will be receiving a generous gift basket custom curated just for them from our neighbor Dr. Benjamin Wright & his team at Lakewood Vet Center.
Winnie our 7-year-old Goldendoodle is the sweetest girl and a wonderful family dog. Daisy, her little sister, is an energetic Cavadoodle puppy. They love walking the neighborhood and saying hi to all their K9 friends, and of course, we have to stop by the treat box on Vickery every day!

Be sure to sign up your pet for a chance to be chosen in future months!
Yard of the Month - 5451 Vickery
We know that Texas winters can be hard on yards with temperature swings, freezing rain, an occasional snow flurry followed by sunny 65 degree weather - so we're always on the lookout for those early signs of spring. We're delighted to see that Linda Mitchell's daffodils are starting to sprout - these cheery bulbs have been flowering for over 50 years! Be on the lookout for those pops of yellow, orange and white at 5451 Vickery Blvd! Thanks Linda, for taking over as caregiver and
keeping the blooms coming since 1981!

Greenville Ave. St. Patrick's Day Parade
Mark Your Calendars—dust off your kilts, get your green garb on and plan your day accordingly! St. Patrick’s Day festivities will begin on Saturday March 16th , with a St Paddy’s Day Dash on Greenville and the St Patrick’s Day Parade both on Upper Greenville (north of Mockingbird) in the morning, followed by the Lower Greenville Avenue block party on Greenville Ave between Vanderbilt Ave and Vickery Blvd. The run, parade, street party and the many private parties in surrounding neighborhoods, attract tens of thousands to Greenville Avenue. Blocks closest to the Lower Greenville party zone will be closed to through traffic and the City will designate “no parking” areas with signs placed generally on the north side of streets in Vickery Place and surrounding neighborhoods. Maps of the affected areas, and other pertinent information will be in your March newsletter, posted on our webpage VickeryPlace.com, and on the Vickery Place Facebook page and groups page. Stay tuned!

Cookie Season
It's Girl Scout Cookie Season! Help encourage our local youths to be savvy businesswomen by supporting their entrepreneurial efforts! (Don't know what to order? Thin Mints are my favorite! Let us know yours in the comments on the website!)
Kroger Community Rewards
During the Q4 period of 2023 we only had 23 households signed up for our Kroger Community Rewards. With nearly 1200 homes in Vickery Place, we can fund events like this month's donations to local Pantries with no effort every time you get groceries! If you shop at Kroger, please take the time to sign up below and a portion of your purchases go to supporting local schools, charity drives, and neighborhood events.
When you do your grocery shopping at Kroger, don’t forget there is an easy way to also support Vickery Place Neighborhood Association. VPNA is a registered charity with the Kroger Community Rewards Program. A few simple steps will help raise funds to support more neighborhood activities. https://www.kroger.com/account/communityrewards/
To Connect With Kroger Community Rewards:
• Sign into your Kroger Rewards digital account (or easily set one up if you do not already have an account).
• Select “My Account”.
• Scroll down to the ‘Community Rewards’ section of your account page.
• Select ‘Enroll Now’ or ‘Edit’.
• Enter the name of the organization you wish to support.
• Select ‘Vickery Place Neighborhood Association’ and click on ‘Save’.
Any transactions moving forward using the card number associated with your Kroger digital account will be applied to the Community Rewards program. It takes about 10 days for the Community Rewards totals to begin displaying on your receipt. Vickery Place NA gets quarterly rewards payments—last quarter we received $44.22. The more neighbors who shop with Kroger and connect their digital account with Vickery Place, the more funds our organization will earn! Thank You!
Crime Watch
Please consider joining our Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/vickeryplace) to help coordinate with your neighbors about potential crime or suspicious characters. We've had several residents on Bonita that have been trying to coordinate for an additional Police Watch to combat late night crime in their area, and the ability to organize ourselves to coordinate with the police would be helpful! Additionally, be sure to update your email newsletter preferences with your street so you can receive pertinent information specific to your street!
Let us know what you think of the Newsletter and if there is anything we missed in the comments under this post on the website!
